I have worked in the mainstream sports media for a long time and I came to the realization that I spent all of my time and efforts writing exactly what I was told. With that in mind, I started the NHL Shout Network of NHL hockey blogs. I proudly admit that I have neither governments, advertisers nor owners imposing rules on me. I will not trade my soul to get an interview with Lightning management or to attain press credentials. The mainstream hockey media pumps out a sanitized version of the news, devoid of any dissenting opinions unfavorable toward the hockey organization that it covers. They will go to great efforts to discredit the hockey bloggers as unprofessional. I take that as a compliment! Blogs steal their attention and Google is stealing their visitors. Lightning Shout is not a phony blog operated by a privileged media conglomerate in disguise. The hockey fan has become skeptical of the mainstream media and has developed a very healthy trust in only themselves to decide what is true and what is false. This is where Lightning Shout and other private hockey blogs come in. We are, in the end, fans of the greatest sport on the planet. We are you and we give you the chance to voice your opinions without repercussions. So look around, read, comment, become a follower, participate in polls and above all, tell me what you think about Hockey Bay USA.
